Brakes-What brakes, they ain't workin'
#1
My 2001 500 AC has developed a real problem. The brakes have gone away and I can't seem to figure out why. I am guessing the master cylinder has got some problems. I have checked the pads for wear and they are still good. I then bled all the lines numerous times and I still have almost no braking. Has anyone else had problems with their brakes and what solutions do you suggest. I am leaning to the master cylinder must have a bad seal and is leaking by.

Don't forget, you have two separate brake systems and reservoirs. Is it the hand brake or the foot brake that isn't working? If it's the hand brake just squeeze it and see if it eventually pulls all the way in. If it does suspect a leaking master cylender. If both the foot and hand brake both eventually collapse, suspect a leaking caliper on the rear. The hand brake does front and rear.

i had the same problem, but with my rear master only. called the dealer, told them what was up(i bled them and no air or leak) they ordered a new master and promptly replaced it under warrenty.
does your '00 have the white plastic front master or the newer black metal one? i have heard of some probs with the old style. maybe call ac themselves and tell them whats up. they might even send you a new one....must have been problematic if they switched over to a different style......only my thoughts.

It is the hand brake. I only have the cable operated foot brake. I don't know why I didn't get the hydrolic foot brake like they advertise
for the 2001's. The master cylinder is the newer version black metal one. I have pumped up the brake and locked the park brake mechanism, then came back a short time later and it doesn't seem to bleed off. It just does not build much pressure and you have to pull it ALL the way in to get some braking. I have also checked all the fittings and do not have any external leaks.
