I’ve been working on a 96 Arctic cat 454 that has poor performance and misfiring engine
carb has been checked has good spark but when you press the brake it will run better and even turning ignition switch to second position will affect how it runs any help ideas would be appreciated

 

Hi Tristan.. I had the this exact problem with my bearcat a few months ago. When the key was in the first position, the engine missed and sputtered. When I moved the key to the lights on position, the engine worked fine. After some testing, I found that the voltage regulator was putting out too much voltage, thus, when I turned on the headlights, I guess it drew off some of the power and fixed the problem. I installed a new voltage regulator (located under the seat on the frame) and that fixed the problem. Hope this helped. Rick
