2016 Alterra 90 (Metal/Grinding) Transmission question
#1
Hi, I am new to the forum. I just picked up a 2016 Alterra 90 that was clearly sitting for a few years. It showed no usual wear like paint wear, bad tires, rust, or cracks in the frame. I noticed both tail lights/harness to bulbs were missing, the front lights not working, and slight cracks in the plastic but solid running machine. (My guess is they did a wheelie and smashed them,) There were some issues with the forward-to-reverse, and I heard some grinding that I thought was the chain. ( I saw some kinks, and just made a small adjustment to the shifter) I changed the Transmission fluid and noticed "silver" and put new fluid in. I thought I may have put too much in I heard the grinding again so I changed it and more silver. NO CHUNKS just silver. I did not hear anything yet, but I did not want to put it in reverse.
1) Are there issues with the transmissions on these, do you think this is a normal wear-in?
2) Do I need the taillights in for the front lights to work?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you, Steve
