My son Alex and I are heading to Utah to check out the trails. Were leaving on or about the first of June. We are still in the planing stage of our drive out and havent decided yet if we should take our time and go the northern route or just dead-head it out there. We will be taking about 10 days and driving a pick-up camper so time and lodging is not a problem. It's been about 20 years since I been out there but as I remember it was beautiful country. Were kind of going out there blind as far as ATVing. We plan on going to Bryce Canyon but we also want to go to the 4-corners/Blanding airea and see some cliff dwellings. any suggestions you guys could give would be appreciated.
I got the Warpony and littleBad in top shape for the trip. The Warpony (my 1999 500) got new bearings all arownd, 2 new ball joints and breakpads. When I was repacking grease in my cv's I notice a crack in my LF outer cv housing so I am going to put in a new drive axle assembly this week. LittleBad (my sons 00 auto) got new bearings in the frount, and new break pads and I orderd a set of Tri-claws for him with my ATVmasters.com prize money, thanks Nightowl. Alex's auto was overheating all the time and I could not figure it out. I met some ATV guys from the factory in Thief River on a ride and talked to the top engineer for ATVs and he thought it might be a bad dioed causing the fan to cutout. I was'nt conviniced. Here it turnd out to be as simple as a bad radiator cap.
Anyway were all excided about the trip its been a long, long cold winter up here on the Rez. and that high desert wether will feel good on my old bag of bones.

If its been 20 years since you have been out here then I am sure a lot of trails have been closed down. You ought to give a call the BLM Offices in Southern Utah to see what trails are still open. I know my ATV club was down in the Bryce area a week ago. UtahRancherRider was there and could give you some more help. He has a post "Southern Utah Ride" or something like that. Good Luck.
If you are planning to get up more in the central Utah region let me know I would love to hook up and ride for a day or two.

 

If you go to Bryce Canyon stop outside of Panguitch, at the junction where Highway 89 and Highway 12 meet, there is a place called "Harolds Place". He could give you directions on some spectacular rides, and there are plenty of places to park your truck so you could leave right from there. About 2 or 3 miles from his place is a trail head named Casto Canyon, this is a must do if you go to Bryce. It's just like riding inside of Bryce Canyon, but ATV's are allowed. There is also an entire trail system called the Freemont ATV trail that bisects all of the country between Bryce Canyon and Panguitch, beautiful country.

If you read my post about my trip to Bryce last weekend, Harold gave us the directions to get into those slot canyons. I'm sure he'd be happy to provide you with directions.

I'm amazed, even living in Utah, how much people cater to ATV's once we get out of the Wasatch Front. Most places you can actually ride on the roads and stay in town or go to town for gas or grub.

You might want to look at some of the trails I've described around Bryce Canyon, and then head North on Highway 89 from Bryce Canyon(Painguitch)to Marysvale to ride the Piute trail.

Keep us posted as to when you're coming out for sure and maybe we could even hook up, and show you around if you want.

 

not alot up north to much privete prop. you should look into richfield for a couple of days pines and quakes ponds wildlife and such diversaty in short drives also the piute trail is so great because theres always people willing to go and ride with you talk to bigdcred he guides for the jamberee alot of us would love to ride

 

Who did you talk to from AC engineering, was it at the Atvam ride? Aczr2k

I forgot the guys name but yah it was at the ATVAM spring ride. I got to talking with "them guys in the matching green suites" at the sinkhole. Turns out thay were from the factory. Thay put me in tuch with one of top engineer back in town.
