while on my night run at uwharrie i came up on a 4 wheeler in front of me. he was headed into the rock garden on rocky mountain loop. this would be fine with a few exceptions:
he was attempting it on a banshee. if thats not bad enough, it was in the dark, in the uphill direction, with his girlfriend on the back, who was holding on with one hand and holding a bottle of beer with the other. the banshee didnt have the torque in the lower end to move much at all, and the two stroke smoke got thick enough to choke on because he couldnt get his quad up and over the rocks without the speed. i pulled up beside him and asked him if he had ever done that run before and he said "no, but this is a racing 4 wheeler". ok.....i told him that he was about to mess up and hurt his girlfriend and after offering to take her and their gear to the top (they declined) i rode to the top to watch. he didnt even make it out of the first small section of rocks before he rolled it backwards on himself and his girlfriend. her arm was cut up but they were lucky beyond that. her beer bottle was of course busted all over just waiting to claim someone elses tires.
i hate dumb asses on the trail.

I too rode with a bunch of idiots Friday night. I had rode with these guys before when they weren't drinking, but people sure get stupid when they get some liquor in them. They were just sitting still and reving their bike up till the revlimiter kicked in then they would just hold it there for 15 or 20 seconds. Later that night the demo derby started there was one guy that had a fairly new Rancher that just got beat all to hell. I let them know that They better not hit me. I don't know how many of them turned over, and hit trees. We got back about 1:00 am and they loaded up their bikes and headed to another spot about a half hour away, after stopping to get more beer, with no trailer lights. I don't know if they made it or not. Don't get me wrong I like a cold beer as much as the next guy, but it doesn't mix with any motorized vehicle. If I ride with these guys again I will definetely ask if they are drinking or not, and if they are I think I will stay home.

Crash up Derby? There's no way I'd do that with my quad. I know someone who probably would though. I was in Newfoundland just a few weeks ago riding my uncle's '98 Foreman 450S at an old sand quarry (great place to ride!). Along came the village idiot driving a '99 AC 400. His extreme reckless abandon said little for his (or his girlfriend's) intelligence, but spoke wonders for the AC. He was doing stuff that a guy on a 400ex would not even attempt. His soon to be paralized girlfriend was on the back with no footpegs, holding on with one hand (the other hand was occupied holding her helmet). He nearly flipped blasting up 90 foot cliffs in what he claims was fifth gear! When he'd get to the top (which is WAY up there), he'd do a wheelie and powerturn for his decent. Needless to say it was a very impressive demonstration of the AC's capability (a 400 at that), but it didn't say much for the driver's respect for life.
