Gas Filter on 2001 AC 400
#2
Y ou can get one from any cycle shop, they are not vehicle specific, cost a couple bucks, easy to install. I don't know why the manufacturers don't put them on at the factory, I don't know of any that do off hand, maybe Polaris but not for sure.

Yeh, I'm curious too. Most cycle shops have them for about $2.00. There's an easy shutoff for the gas line, then an easy clip to remove the line. Install the new one, and reverse the process. Takes, literally a couple minutes.
Well, here's another thing they should have thought of for the cost. Although, I haven't heard of many "dirty carbs" from a lack of a fuel filter. And there are a lot of AC's out there. Still though for the price, they should have done it.

Hey dude's , I just put one on my 400i today, I had a lot of carb trouble with my 01 400 and 2000 250 , 97 220 , because i carry my gas , there is no filter , the book shows a small one in the carb , but you need one in the line , got mine at pro cycle shop yesterday , 200 $ , just cut off the gas, cut the line 2 clamps your done , mine drove me crasy last year, but these filter's fix that. I guess the filter is like ever running fan . I don't know why they do that, Chunky

I had some stuff clog up my carb on my 02 300 4x4. I asked my dealer about an inline filter. He said that they won't stop small stuff like what clogged up my carb jets.
The reason he said is because the fuel line isn't pressurized and since it isn't if the filter was restrictive enough, that the carb wouldn't get enough fuel.

Sounds like he just don't know wtf he is talking about. I know on my older model there is infact a fuel filter that I never knew about untill I removed my fuel petcock. It's actually more of a screen than a filter, but it's better than nothing. I cleaned it off and installed an inline fuel filter on my 99 500 and it ran fine with it.
I don't work untill Monday, but I will try to get on the 2002 Microfish and see if there is a fuel filter or screen of some type in the newer models and let you guys know about it.

Maybe the dealer said that because, he wanted some future carb work to be coming his way he, he.
I'm still trying to give that dealer the benefit of the doubt and figure out where they were coming from, but I can't. Get a $2 filter on that thing. Just my .02, I haven't been rebuilding small engines since I was 14, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

According to my dealer (which I forgot to mention in my other post) he said that there is a filter (screen) in the petcock/shutoff. Which was the other reason he didn't recomend a filter.
But he did say he would get me one if I wanted it. I think I will get one.
Wonder how often I ought to change the thingy??
