Heard from a buddy today that AC has a new 550 in the dealer showroom now. From what he said it sounds like a AWSOME machine. Is this true?
just bought a 500 AC last Sept.

Any cheaper sources for a replacement speedometer, dealer said $97.00? Got 85 miles showing on the pieces I got now. Guess that is the first part to hit when the cat lands upside down.

Just picked up my 500i a couple of weeks ago. If its a 550 it must be a 2003? because its not in the 2002 lineup.

AC550? I haven't heard of one. Anybody, got any details, pictures, ect. I find it hard to believe that they would just come out with the 500i then a couple months later release a 550 with no press.

I doubt it. It would be pointless to make such a quad, unless you do away with the 500 and also make a 650-700 class machine. Then you compete with the big bores an up the stakes in the 500 market. I don't see a 550 myself, but I'm no psychic either.

If anything AC ought to use the Vinson's High Output 500 motor in the 500i and add a locking diff. I personally have no need for anything large than a 500. Yes, I've ridden the Kawi 650. Also I've ridden with a bunch of Grizzlies, SP500HOs, Kawi 650s, and one SP700. Speed simply isn't my thing. Oh, you can't beat blasting down a trail at full bore but I'd rather be chugging down a rocky trail. I like to sight see, and to take my time (no I'm not an old man).
Sorry I got off topic... Basically if AC comes out with anything it should improve the 500 and then build a new big bore for those who want it. So far I like the SP700 and the Griz the best. IRS, locking front diffs and lots of ground clearance. I like the SP because it looks like it has a beefier frame, the Griz because it has better looks and lighter weight. Anyways now that I've stated my opinion hopefully you guys aren't too bored.

some of us do actually need bigger quads i have a sportsman500 ho with 27 inch vamps and ive had it in such thick and deep mud that i couldnt even spin the tires anymore i want a big bore for the torque and to make up for the power loss you get with bigger tires after i put the tires on it feels more like a 400 BRING ON THE BIG GUNS

Next are the 800s then 900s then 1000s. The biggest and baddest isn't always the best. There are more concerns about land usage, and how ATVs impact on the environment. I wonder sometimes why people need to go a put on 28 inch tires and then dig the hell out of muddy areas (not that mudding isn't fun). There are couple trails that where torn up by reckless individuals and no are off limits to ATVs. Now before anyone gets angry understand that I love ridding and talking wheelers. But there people who would like nothing better than to ban them from use on public land. A little common sense goes a long way.
Filthyhabit, I assume you don't care for the Griz or the Sp700. How come? You have much trouble with your HO? My buddies love theirs.

well if you see where we ride you would understand the need for big tires and big power we ride in a river bottoms area that is flooded out every spring the only damage we could do is to our machines were talking about useless land that could never be damaged any worse then mother nature does every 12 months anyways as far as the 700 sp i like it but id be paying an awful lot of xtra money for a small gain over a 500 ho as for the yamaha i dont buy jap stuff (yes i know cats motors are made by suzuki) but its as close to american as you can get next to a polaris
