44 people lookin or interested. But no one with an answer. I know there are knowledgeable(sp?) people out there. Anyone know the answer?

I'm thinkin of the 2002 500i auto for my replacement. A friend that has one says he is a little disappointed with the power so I thought this tranny fix would be the answer. I don't want to try and change the piston and carb to try and catch the suzuki machine like he does. That seems like too much for a NEW machine for me.

Just so you all know, also thinkin about buying it from dealer with 28" mudzillas already installed. What do you think? I can get some 26" 589's really cheap also and may go that route.

My riding style is I LOVE to play in the mud, but most of other riding is trail and bush and a fair amount of old roads.

thanx for all your input, I wuld be lost without all your help and support.

Well, with my outlaws (26.12.12 & 26.10.12) the power on my 500i is OK. Not great but not horrible. If you went with 28" on an Automatic tranny you would be very disapointed I think. I'm not sure if the tranny fix can be applied to the 2002 models or not, I don't even know what the tranny fix is. But power wise I think your best bet would be to go for those cheap 589's you were talking about.

The tranny trick should work on a 02. The only thing they changed was the vent locations. I would think it would work on a 375 also since they use the same tranny. I never tried this on my auto since I sold it right before minehunter posted about it. But he says it makes a difference in the lower end engagement, so it hooks up better. He will probably come on here and give you more info.

It will work for the 2002 also. The transmissions are the same type of setup.

The how to can be found here:
Here's the AutoClutch Mod, dated July 10, 2001

Just do a search and it will show up. I also have a drawing of the retainer plate that I can email to you that shows what you have to do to it.

Minehunter: Thanx for sending the drawing of the retainer plate. Also do you think the mudzillas are too much for the 500? Even with this mod?

thanx
