Oil Leak

Sigh, all of a sudden i have an oil leak. As described here, but my machine is a 500...
Oil Leak Link
Would it be fair to say this can happen to a 500 as well. It is in the same spot. I wonder how it was caused. I did stray from the cat oil to the 4x4 10/40 semi. I went on a run this weekend and noticed it when i arrived. The run was about 80 miles one way of faster type riding, 40+ MPH Not really a good idea on this older bike. Its not leaking bad but was looking for other opinions on how it may have happend.
Thx
Mark

This has happened to me also on my 98 500 4x4. All you have to remaove is the case cover. I opened the case cleaned everything up dried everything and then put hte new gasket on. everything was fine until i went on my next short ride, the leak had returned. So i took it apart again then put high temp formagasket on with th old gasket and no problems since. The origianal gasket looks like it had been caught by the big gear that is right at the lower back of the case. You can just use formagasket, my quads running proof.

Thx for the replys. Ill speak to the dealer. But im unsure if they will know about the new gasket now. The service manager had a heart attack and i doubt the cute little accountant will know. Hope the service manager gets well soon. They are a good dealer for only being into the Cat Atvs for a couple of years. I could just order it and hope its the good one, and put a tiny bit of gasket goop on it.

Sambo, i doubt it will be this week. But we can still stand around and drink beers ;]

This oil leak problem is caused from to much revving. My old 500 Quadrunner did this too and I revved that poor motor out. My 500i doesn't get revved up to much and I think it will last a good while, well until I trade it in on a big bore (if AC ever releases one.)

Ya bb im sure i did it to myself. The 80 miles of in the yellow and orange driving. I have no one to blame but myself heh. Its a utility quad not a sport, lol. After the gasket is replace it wont happen again. Me driving it like that, that is.

well well well i had done my repair and it worked great until today! the leak is back.I havent opened it up yet but it looks like that big gear at the lower rear caught the gasket again! guess i mise well just trade it in for a new 500i manual anyways...
