Actually, I own one of Honda's more outrageous engineering feats, a 1982 CBX. DOHC inline 6 cylinder, 1049cc and 105 HP (with a couple of mods). Silky smooth, even when wound out. Monoshock rear, and dual vented front discs - vented discs were done first on the CBX, then appeared on the Goldwing a little later. Beautiful machine, looks like a missile, and goes like one, too. At around 8k, that engine takes on the deep howl of a 12 cyl Jaguar, a very unique sound. It is sometimes called a 'magnificent miss', a little too heavy to be a sport bike, a little too sporty to be a touring bike, and it retailed for $6500 when a Harley was selling for $5k. But, just hear that engine howl, feel it's turbine like acceleration, and you forgive it for it's flaws.

Honda doesn't seem to do that anymore. Instead of pushing the envelope on the engine or suspension, they go all out on the, um, transmission. Yes, both the rubi and the rincon have the best transmissions out there, but you just wish they'd put the same focus into something a little more exciting.

More's the pity, when Honda did put that sort of focus into something more exciting, they created an unforgettable bike. I'll have my X for years to come, there's nothing else like it on the market, at any price.

You hit it on the head johnny O.............where is the G---wizzz stuff from honda that i used to see.......You speak of the cbx which i remember vividly... the 79 model in particular........They are a different company today....much larger and much less apt to take too much risk.........i guess i can understand that...but you wont remain large without cutting edge products......look at the revival of G.M.........What bothers me most about late model Honda products is the lack of attention to detail.I just recieved my honda 2 horse for my canoe......it came with pre-delaminated decals and a chip out of the prop????.....right out of the box....at least I know the engine will run well............

Haven't posted any photos of my X, but you can check out CBX site, it'll tell you all you need to know. CBX's are still relatively cheap, considering how exotic they are. 81-82 models can be had for $3k in clean condition, 79-80 are $1k or so higher. The earlier models had no fairing, nothing but that massive engine sticking out both sides of the frame. The CBX engine was an outrageous piece of engineering for it's time, still is today.

I really wish someone would get this carried away in the quad world. Maybe a 6 wheeler with 14" ground clearance and independent suspension on all 6 wheels, backed up with a 70-80 hp engine, the ultimate go-absolutely-anywhere machine. We need a serious bad boy to dream about.

RINCON
Did I hit a nerve? As for Honda selling more machines that is true although Cat hasn't been in the ATV business nearly as long, and their share of the market is growing. I'm not quite sure what your intentions are but it seems like you want to start a pissing match. Let's just agree to disagree.

ya, whatever. if you've read some of my other posts you'd see that i said my next quad would hopefully be a 500i (manuel) the local cat dealer has one of those lime green ones, with the chrome plated wheels, and ITP589's, it's the nicest looking quad i've seen around. so no i don't hate arctic cat.

Arctic Cat ATVs suck. My old Honda ATC 90 went through more mud than my friend's Cat 400. Good snowmobiles though.

he sounds like a menally changed kid that just learned how to type. your story is a little bogus pal, i rode a atc90 (honda) when i was little (the guys next door) and it's like 2 inches off the ground.

<< Good snowmobiles though. >>

i think you got your facts backwards, good atv's and not so good mobiles.

The cat had wore out front tires and about 50% tread on the back. He got hung up on a rock in the mud and couldn't rock it off. The 90 is so light I rocked it right over that rock with box stock Ohtsu tires on it.

The only snowmobiles better than arctic cat is the old John Deeres.
