You Know it could be normal. I have a generator that does the same thing. Re jetting most likely will do nothing. I will check mine and see. It is possible to have a burnt valve but that would make the engine not run right and you said it did run good? But I'll get back to you.

Basstoy-

Like I said I have not seen it on any atv but I have never looked for it- I have seen this a ton on briggs and strattons and its normal for them. Running a motor leaner does make it run hotter so jeting it richer might help, but unless its running poorly its jetting is prob. right. You also have to remember, the colder it gets the leaner an engine runs. Something you could try is to run it a while with a little bit of choke on to see if it helps correct the problem. What color is your sparkplug? Black mans rich, brown means good, and getting grayish means lean. As for the dealer jetting it under warranty- it depends on how they do it. It should be under warranty if it is done to "correct the red glowing pipe" but normally jetting something down is not. It is up to the DEALER to check to make sure that the machine is setup right- I have seen some dealers roll snowmobiles and wheelers out of the crate, put some gas in it, and do the essentials to make it run and let it go. It is totally up to your dealer if they want to go the extra mile when setting it up to tune it or just let it go the way it comes from AC. I can't drive the wheelers around at work to see if they do it because of space restrictions but I will take my 01 300 out on the lake for a spin when I get home from work tomorrow night to see if it glows red and I will let you know.....

2002 500 Auto ACT @ 500 miles.

1. Brake sending switch recalled. dealer serviced
2. Ball Joints recalled. dealer serviced
3. Master Cylinder breather hole opened up which resulted in more powerful and consistent braking performance.
4. Installed 45 watt highbeams.
5. Ignition electrical short. fix to be determined.
6. 1"1/2" tranny breather hose cooked by exhaust.
dealer replaced free. improper factory installation. (factory notified)

All of my 500 Cats have had a glowing exhaust pipe. After making a high speed run it would glow at night. After making a pull in the atv pulls it would glow all the way back to the muffler at times. As long as it is running and starting good, I wouldn't worry about it. Have you had the valves adjusted? I usually did this after about 500 miles and always noticed a better throttle response. I wouldn't adjust them until 500 miles though. They are never loose and don't seem to tighten up until this time. It may be that you need them adjusted because they are too tight and the exhaust valve isn't closing all the way. Valve adjustments are easy to do on the Cat and usually takes longer to get the fuel tank off than to complete the rest of the job. Get you a service manual and a 12 pack and dive in, it's easy if you have any mechanical ability at all.
