Hey ya'll I'm new to the forum. I've always ridden my buddies 4-wheelers, and the ones we have at work, but I just bought my first one. It's a '98 ac 454 2x4. I was wondering how often ya'll wd. suggest changing the oil in it. The guy I bought it from said it probobly needed to be changed soon. Also can I buy oil filters for it at advance auto or napa? Any other preventative maint. ya'll can think of wd. be appreciated. The guy said that he was going to get a owners man. for me because he had lost he old one, it will prob. answer most of my questions, but just wanted to see what ya'll thought. Thanks for the help.

Welcome Jockdawg!!!
The AC manual suggests changin oil every 6 mo. or 300 miles. I have used the Fram #ph6018 filter. It is a tad smaller in diameter, but it seals just fine. Inside it is identical to the stock filter. Use a good sae 10w40 or (for cold weather application) a sae 5w30 oil. On my 500, I use Quaker State Synthetic Blend. Just a personal choice. Steer away from the oils that say "energy conserving" though.
As far as other maint., check your gear oil (80w90 hypoid), air filter, brake fluid...etc. Just your basics.
One thing I can recommend is to keep your machine clean!!! In my opinion, leaving mud and dirt on the machine is just asking for things to wear out!!
