Hey all, I have a 2002 375 2x4 automatic that has been very reliable so far. Recently, it has started making a knocking or pinging sound from the engine. In neutral, everything sounds fine. You can rev the engine to high rpm's and it sounds good. However, when I put it in gear and take off, a very distinctive pinging can be heard. I'd say pinging because it's higher in pitch than the regular engine noise. It only seems to do it when I try to accelerate, steady rpm's seems ok. I tried a higher grade of gasoline, but that didn't help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

check to see if ur recoil starter (pull starter) is bolted on tightly, mine made a pinging noise and i found out that 5 bolts were missing from it and it was barely holding on
