Running with no thermostat
Already called the dealer. They want $30 for the stat. It's not a high priority for a quad I rarely use these days, so it'll wait a month or two, but we do use this machine on occasion just to haul things at the riding place. Should be ok if I just limit it's run times.
Eventually it'll be diagnosed, repaired, and then sold as I am moving more towards the sport side of things.

Rather than taking a chance of hurting the machine, I would remove the stat and check it by putting it in boiling water and it should open at 185 deg. ( If I remember right). I have had other stats stick and all I needed to do was push it open and it worked fine from that point on.

V/dew, before you get too happy about tearing up the quad, then takin' it to the deaaler to fix, try looking at the radiator again. Look for dirt, mud or something blocking the fins of the rad. You my have to remove the front covers, winch, etc. to fully view the radiator. Then, dependingon what your final inspection shows, you may have to remove the radiator to clean the debris from the fins. Don't run without a thermo. That causes hot spots in the cylinder head which leads to other problems. Hope this helps,

Ecorman1, it's my quad, not Vewdew's, but I will certainly check the radiator.
As an update to this thread I did remove the thermostat to do the "boiling water" test mentioned here. The thermostat works, so I know it's not that. I checked the fluid level and it was a little low (not surprising since it overheated last time) and checked the oil level, which was also low. After riding it again on a nice cool day it STILL overheats, though it took a bit longer.
I'll be cleaning it today and taking that good look at the radiator. It's a new radiator, however, and hasn't been in mud enough to get clogged. The original radiator got plastered with mud and I never had this problem. I begin to worry that I missed something in the reconstruction of the front end.
