Default points replacement

i recently had the fortune of receiving a 1985 honda atc 70 for free! yes for free! the trike itself is in pretty good shape but i cannot get any spark. i put a new coil on it and still nothing, i checked the on/off switch also it's good. my next step is to check the points but i don't know how to remove the hub/drum that is covering them. i tried using a claw-type puller but the thing won't budge, is there something else that has to be removed before i can the hub off. any info would be appreciated!

you need a puller to get the hub off. they cost about 15$.

k&n or motion pro make a puller for it. did you try tapping on it with a hammer when you had the puller on it? that might help. when you adjust the points, make sure they open enough or it will run like crap. not sure what the gap is though

Doesnt an 1985 atc 70 use a cdi system with a pulse gererator on the cam cover. I dought a honda still used points in the 80s and under the flywheel like a lawn mower but I could be wrong. That engine was from the 60s.

i'm pretty sure all the atc 70's had points under the flywheel. the 70's also never had any advance mechanism like the 110,125 and 200 motors. the only way to adjust the timing was by the points.
