New to Honda ATC, Need advice!
#1
I just bought my 84 Honda ATC 200X. What weight of oil should I use? As far as I know this is a low hour orignal engine. I get smoke on first fireup (valve guides?) but after that it's pretty clean!
Has anyone heard of moding a mono-shock? I have heard it is possible to install a schrader valve in the oil side of the shock so you can recharge the oil instead of spending the $700+ for a new one? Thanks

i run 10w-40 year round in my ATCs. i just use regular oil, but depending on how you ride you might want to use synthetic.

Thrash- I have run 10 40 with lucas hd oil stabilizer(quiets gearboxes, helps run cooler, etc). Im in S.E. Iowa, it gets pretty chilly, never had a problem kicking a bike with this setup. Cant help you with the mono shock mod, I would be interested in doing that too if anybody has any info on it!

I took the 200X out this weekend and used the 10W40.b Thanks to all !!!!! Have a question though.......The 200X normally have a LOUD timing chain? Runs good but you can hear the timing chain over the exaust! I hear the tentioners go bad?

10W - 40 is fine. Just make sure you check the oil every time you ride, because there is only a bit over a quart in the crankcase and if you run low you will starve it for oil and sieze the thing up.
