It smokes because 1- to much oil in case 2- the rings are worn to much to bring the oil back down the jug.

Sounds like it's been sitting a while. New piston and rings and rebuild or replace the carb. Clean out the gas tank and the filter on the shut off valve.

i did a piston ring job on a 200ES, you have to pull the engine out of the frame, pull the head and cylinder off and change the rings on the piston. youll have to get the cylinder honed so your new rings setup properly. when i did it it cost me about $350 (canadian). i did all the labour myself, although i did change a few timing chain parts aswell (if you didnt want to do that [although you prolly should] you can prolly knock off about $100)

it wont do your bike any harm to run it with worn rings just keep a CLOSE eye on the oil level (my bike would drop to dangerous levels after just one day of riding). although if you did change the rings youd never have to worry about the oil level again and would probably get a noticable performance difference (depending on how far gone you rings are currently)

it likely (who knows for sure?) wont idle because the carb is screwed. clean it or try adjusting the idle screw if your feeling adventorous. also try a new spark plug and stuff like that. old gas can also make an engine run like crap

anyways sorry for the long post, good luck with it (from experience, theyre a bitch to get going but once they do theyre worthy it)

elephant thank you for the long post. the longer the better. so should i get the cylinder bored, or just honed and get a new piston& rings?
my dad says that i should probably get a new cylinder and new rings, but keep the piston. i am in disagreement with that. what should I do?

No dont just get a new sleeve! Take measurments of the cylinder (if you have a manual) and make sure its not past its wear limit. At least hone it and then Buy a new piston and rings. (top end kit)
