There is alot more than which is faster there both as fast as you want for the right $$$$.
I have an 85 250R ATC with major port work on the stock jugg, racing pipe, 38mm mikuni and a few more goodies I am into it about $3300.
I have raced Banshees on dirt, sand, public roads about 2 out of 10 are worth running with.
The other 2 always have some major HP and for that you need $$$$ when you need 2 parts for the twin motor. That will put them double the price or more. The same goes for all the new 4strokes sure they look good but $7000 and you still need about $1500-2500 to keep up with my trike on the sand.
I have a 02 cannondale 440 for $7000 it dont come close.
If I put a few Gs in my R to even the price diff then see what whats faster.
250R ATC I think the best bang for your buck.

ok look it all depends stock for stock and the LOCATION!!! in the dunes the banshee woudl ahve a slight advantage b/c it can turn the revs a little quicke rto ge tthe sand moving but in dirtroads and tighter windy roads and such it woudl be pretty much dead even ihave smoked alot of banshee's and io have been smoked b4 too but i dont realyl se ethe pointin arguing about it b/c wether uahve a banshee or an r it doesnt matter u have fun on it and have a blast either way am i right or am i wrong???if anyoen has anyother questiond dont be afraid to post it?

I think stock for stock the R will win and the reason is because it is alot lighter, but the main part is it is mostly the rider of the bike too.





- 1986 ATC250R w/ DG pipe, and silencer.

I think it has to do a lot with the condition of the 250R. Some run like new, some are ragged out POSs and there are those in between. My friends 84 250R couldn’t take my nearly stock 86 LT250 because it had bad bearings, rust/dirt under the flywheel causing it to misfire and was geared way to high. Had it been my 250R I would replace the bearings, cleaned up the coils and geared it down to go 70 or so instead of 80-85. Then it would have killed my LT.

This is the case with all old quads/atcs. Quadzillas for instance, some won’t hang with a stock Banshee because they run like crap and need maintenance and some will smoke a piped Banshee because they’ve been taken care of and run like they are supposed to.
