Default no spark to plug

Hey guys need a little help. I have an 84 200x that wont start. I grounded the plug and theres no spark getting to the plug. I have checked all connections, all look ok. That leaves the coil or CDI. I dont have an ohmmeter so I cant check them that way. Of the 2, which goes out more frequently? Is it possible to rebuild the CDI or better to replace? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The coil would be the first suspect. CDI are a totally potted assembly, and cannot be repaired.
They are also expensive and non-returnable should the old one prove to be good.
Go to Radio Shack and buy a $40 mutilmeter and do it right.

Did you check the plug wire and cap? temporarily rig a copper wire between coil and plug and check for spark.

Ok......replace the coil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The same thing happened to me, and I spent 3 weeks finding a new CDI box after many tests, and We spent $70, got it home, and it still wouldnt kick over . After more tests, We discovered that my coil was shot, and we replaced it, and it fired right up!!! So just replace your coil, and see what happens.

You will need a multimeter to check it out right. Also, remember the stator coil in the alt. assy. is the trigger for the ignition. Without it, it will never fire. When you get a meter, set it to ac volts, unplug the black w/red stripe wire from alt. Put pos lead from meter to it(alt side), ground neg. Crank it over, see if the meter pulses. The numbers should change polarity. If so, you have a trigger.

I say that it is the coil, mine has gone out before. I had a
spare so i don't know the price of one. It could also be the
regulator, which screws on the end of the coil wire.
