CDI on my $50 Honda 200
Hi, Im new to this forum and I also just bought a 1981 Honda 200 for $50. This thing was kinda dirty and it needs a little work. Too start I can't seem to pull start or even just pull because it seems that my CDI unit on the OHV is jammed. I took out one of the bolts that holds the to the OHV (one is missing) and then I tried to pull start and the whole thing turns but it not supposed to. It also seems that the CDI unit has worked its way out of the OHV. Im going to get a manual soon but thought I might see what some of you very knowledgeable people know. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

What part of the CDI ignition are you referring to??
It sounds like you may be talking about the pulse coil [little black box held on with 2 screws] or the pulser rotor which is on the end of the camshaft that gives the signal to the pulse coil.
The rotor should be turning when the engine is turning.
The best that I can tell, the pin on the camshaft is broke or lost.
I may be reading your post wrong.

The Pulsar Rotor doesnt spin freely when I try to pull start. The unit on the camshaft is pulling from the OHV. When I drained the oil I got quite a bit of metal shavings (not good at all). Makes my $50 machine, well an expensive piece of garbage. Implanning on getting a manual and tearing into the OHV and the head. Im pretty sure the camshaft is jammed and gouging into the OHV cover or the head. Are parts still around for these 1981 Honda ATC200 or is used the only way to go. If used is the only way to go I have no idea where to start looking but I wont know what I need till I tear into her. Oh well its a project.

Doesn't sound to good about the oil.
Tear her down and see what you need.
Usually, it is much better to go used. New parts are outrageous prices and most of them have been discontinued by Honda anyway.
When you find out what you need, be sure to let me know.
I have an almost unlimited supply of used engine parts from the bottom end to the top end.

Thanks for all your help Knowsalot. Well I tore into the top end of the engine and I found that the 2 bolts holding the cam sproket on had worked their way lose and into the back of the CDI housing thats on the left side of the engine causing it to be jammed. Good news is all the metal shavings are from that housing and not something like the OHV or the head. I also found that the Spark Advancer is cracked. So as of right now I need the 2 short bolts for the cam sproket and the spark advancer in the CDI. Let me know if you have any lying around and let me know how much you want for them. Thanks again Knowsalot.
