A friend of mine has a 350x trike. He is looking in to a quad. Really doesn't have the money to get a quad with the same power as the 350x. So he is considering the conversion. Was wondering where i can get some info on this kit or procedure. Has anyone done this? How is the handling? Doe s it feel like a quad?? Thanks for any help you may have ....

I did read that review. Is that the only kit available for the conversion ?? Its a little steap of a price. I was hoping that they would sell just the front mounting unit, and then buy used a-arms and shocks...etc !! I dunno though, maybe you can't. I will have to look into getting a frame, cutting the front off, and then mounting it on the trike from. Hhmmm, sure does sound easy..haha
Thanks for your help !!!

Why, WHy, WHYYYY???? Why take an awesome looking trike like the 350X and turn it into some wierd looking fourwheeler? I cant imagine the steering geometry would be that great. I dunno, I saw a 250r conversion and thought it looked like.. well you get te picture. Try to talk your buddy out of it!

He wants more stability. He does mostly all woods riding and some track stuff. I really doubt he will go through with it, but he talks about it sometimes.. So you don't recommend ?? Why, just for the looks, or is it mechanically no good ??

I am with Roostking. I have never heard anything good about the 3 to 4 conversions, although I have never been around one.

Want some more stability, in my younger years all I did was ride in the woods and found a 4" extended axle to do quite nicely. All 3 of my performance trikes (two of which I still own) have had extended axles, '84ATC200X, and the two in my sig. No regrets with extended axles.

The one time I did ride the converted 250R the steering seemed pretty sluggish. Not to mention the front fenders are from a LT250R(his kit anyway) NOt that bad, but Suzuki fenders on a Honda?? I would take 86atcR's advice and get the extended rear axle instead. I think your buddy will be much happier with this setup and it will make at least three of us in the forums happy!

Have a nice Thanksgiving,

PLEASE Don't convert a classic trike like a 350X or 250R. I went through this dilemma a year ago. Saved my money and bought a 87-250R rather than convert my 86-250R. I have seen this hybrid Quad at a local shop and I wasn't really impressed with its quality. As many have suggested, increase the axle width & lengthen the swingarm 3" to 4". I have done this mod to my 86R and it has improved its handling tremendously. Good luck.

Here is my opinion and some advice.

I personally wouldn't change it. Especially if the machine is in good condition. They haven't made a 350x trike in almost 14 years and the conversion kits require hacking and welding on the good'ol strong tubed chassis. The conversion is a do or die thing. One mistake cutting or welding and you may have a weak point or something that just looks bad.

Now back in 94 I wantd to change my 350x into a quad. I was seriously looking into a conversion kit. I ordered the catalog which I still have, and called and verified prices. The kit with shipping was about $1400.00 dollars. Then you had to put it on or pay someone to do it.

Well, I really wanted a 350 quad, all my friends had quads and I wanted one also. So I converted mine, but not with a kit. I found a used 250x four wheeler and installed my 350x motor in it. I picked up a complete rolling chassis with good fenders and seat cover and even a good set of handle bars for about $400.00, one third the cost of a conversion kit and I didn't have to do any welding or cutting on the chassis. The changeover was quite simple, and what I had in the end was a machine that handled very good, and also looked good, and also had many chassis parts available through aftermarket suppliers. I still have it and still like it. I have since intalled 250r a-arms and shocks on the front and done many other chassis modss which made it handle even better.

This is just a thought, since I have been down that road.

Although like I said at first, if the machine was in good shape. I wouldn't change it.
