Default 185x??

I have an 82 185s and a 200x, well parts to a 200x. I was wondering if I could make a 200x automatic out of my 185. Could I do this by boring out the 185 and using the x piston and such, or would I have to use a complete 200x top end with the 185 tranny? does that make sense?

You can swap everything in the top end.

The only big difference being the cylinder bore ofcourse.

Oh......and yes, the 185S tranny will bolt right into the X chassis.

would I have to use the 200x crank and/or connecting rod, or could I just put the 200x piston on the existing connecting rod. I would probably use a pre-86 top end.

You just use the 200X piston with the 185 rod already there.

You have to use the pre-86 X stuff on the top end. The '86-'87 models use entirely different engine parts.

I did the swap you are doing on a 200x. It worked great. If the top end to the x is in good shape use everything from there. I would also change the stator coil from the x bottom end (It will make the wiring plug right up) It seems like I had to do something to the flywheel to make it work with the x coil because of the size difference.

Can't remember though.

Maybe knows knows

The X uses a "reverse type" external rotor. I do not know if it's even possible to put it in a 185 stator housing. Besides that, the 200X stator is a wet type and the 185 uses a dry type. The X stator is actually bolted to the outside cover and the rotor magnet opening faces outward instaed of inward.

All you really have to do is splice the wires and that's it. Same wiring..........just different connectors.

The 185 and standard 200 engines use 2 wires for the lighting coil and the 200X uses only 1 wire. That's the only difference. I have never did this onversion and ran the headlights anyway, so I would have to do some digging into wiring schematis to figure out which wire you use,....if not both of them.

As far as just getting it to run, connect the red and black wire from the 200X harness to the black wire coming from the 185 stator and you are good to go.

Knows:

I'm sure I did something to get the coil from the x to work. I don't remember what I did but I did not splice anything. I'll have to give my old friend a call and ask him what we did. Maybe we took apart the stator and bolted it to the bracket from the autoclutch bottom. It has been a while but I'm sure we used the larger coils from the x and the stock x wiring without any splicing.

Does this make sense?

If you used the X primary coil and lighting coil, I ould see why no splicing would be neccesary since you are connecting the same parts.

Don't get me wrong here. I have never tried to swap the stator pieces from an X to the bottom end of a auto tranny 185/200 before, so you could be absolutely right. I just don't understand why Honda built the X stator assembly to be wet, using the oil to cool it and yet the other models do not......Never really thought much about them I guess.

well since i have a 200s parts bike, and no current wiring for the x, could I use all of hte wiring for the s? also I was just bidding on a swingarm and shock for my x and at the last day the guy cancelled it becuase I was the only bidder, $1.98 would have grabbed them both, and he lived about 20 minutes away, so I can understand why he cancelled, but now I have to find another one, anyone out there have an inexpensive used swingarm?
