I'm new to 3 wheeling and hoping to get a little advice with what would be some good mods for my 79 110. I already know I need to replace the exhaust, but if anyone knows of a good brand or model any info would be helpful. Any other ideas for mods would be nice also.

 

The only pipe that I know of is a cobra pipe. You can get web cam to regrind you cam pretty cheap to. Go ahead and put in a uni air filter too. The fact is you are not going to get a whole lot of power out of the engine anyway but you can make it a blast to ride. I love to ride wheelies on mine. The best thing to do with a 79 is to go ahead and convert it to electronic ignition insted of points. You will have to get some stuff off of a later model atc to do that though. My 79 is actually a little faster than my 84 though, I think it has somthing to do with the way the mag is made. The 79's is smaller and lighter than later model 110's. I run fork extensions on both of mine, they help out alot on hills. I don't know who sells them I have a bunch of 110 parts that I have been collecting since I was about 12. My 79 110 was the first ATC I ever owned. Just taking off the airbox lid makes a noticeble increase in power. Hope this helps.

 

what do u need to do to take off the air box and what kinda filter do i need to use?????

It sounds like you need to adjust the carb now that it is getting more air than before. It would be running to lean now. Might even have to change the jetting on the carb.

 

A points ignition 110 cannot be converted to an electronic type. The crankshaft will not accept the magneto from the late model. Even the crankase design is so that the flywheel wouldn't work if you wanted it to. I have seen several attempts over the years by many others trying to convert and the only succesful ones are those involving swapping the entire bottom end from a late model 110.

If you take the bottom end apart on an older 110 and compare it to a later model 110 you will find that those two engines share very parts aside from the topend parts.

The airbox lid cannot be removed from the older points models because there is no lid to remove. Most people drilled several holes in the side of the airbox and put in a Uni filter when in dusty conditions and those that raced used a clamp-on K&N filter directly to the carburetor.

What you want to track down are the BigAl stroker crankshafts and big bore kits that were sold by lots of companies during the 1980s. I haven't seen any in quite a while but they can be found. I have a BigAl BigBore kit that I found on ebay last year....it is sitting on my shelf right now as a conversation piece......for now. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

Oh, and like HMFIC said, grab up some fork extenders if you don't already have them. That extra wheelbase not only helps keep the front end down on hills, but makes the handling in turns much better as well. Takes a bit of the tip out of tipsy.

You should find fork extensions at nearly any ATV/motorcycle salvage yard. If you don't know of one in your area, call your local dealer....he will lead you one nearby.

Ofourse, I see them ebay at times as well, so check that out to.

 

what is the point gap for the atc110????
also what oil shouls i use ,, when i change the oil???

 

for 110 performance parts go to www.powroll.com. Also DG makes a exhaust system for it. It is a bit hard to find. I have it on my daughters bike.
