YOU ALL WILL PROBABLY THINK THIS MIGHT BE A STUPID QUESTION BECAUSE ALL ENGINES GET HOT, BUT I HAVE AN 86' 350X, AND THE ENGINE GETS REAL HOT, REAL QUICK. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS NORMAL OR NOT, BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY ONE I KNOW WHO HAS ONE AROUND THE AREA I LIVE IN. I KEEP UP ON THE ENGINE MAINTENENCE, AND EVERYTHING. BUT I DONT KNOW IF SOMETHING IS WRONG, OR IF IT IS NORMAL ON ALL 350X'S

My broher and I rode 350x's for a long time. Sometimes in the summer he would take his gas cap off and the gas would be boiling in the tank, that's hot! His bike was highly modified, mine slightly. Mine was a 86 his a 85, I only noticed this a couple of times on mine.
If this has been hapening for a long time you probably don't have a problem. If it just started and is making some unusual nioses you have a problem.
The cam siezing in the head is a comon problem on 350x's(lack of maintenence, oil+filter changes) thus ruining the head, cam, rocker arms. Not good.
Use Honda HP motorcycle oil.
If you think you realy have a problem, let a mechanic look at it.
350x heads are hard to find, don't ruin yours!

Happy trails.

OK, THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS, BUT I GOT ANOTHER QUESTION. WHEN I AM GOIN DOWN A STRAIGHT AWAY OR WHATEVER, AND I GOT THE BIKE OPENED UP, WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN, AND SHIFTING INTO 2ND, OR 1ST, SOMETIMES THE BIKE WILL ALMOST MAKE A SOUND LIKE IT IS GASPING FOR AIR, AND STALL. I AM THINKING IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE CARBUERATOR, BUT I AM NOT SURE.

Honda350xman did you happen to put an aftermarket pipe and or silencer on your 350X without rejetting it? My 350X runs hot when I'm just putting around. They are a pain to start when they are hot too.

YEAH, THATS PROBABLY IT, THE CARB MUST NOT BE JETTED FOR THE PIPE, BECAUSE OVERSIZED JETS WERE PUT INTO THE CARB BEFORE THE PIPE AND SILENCER WERE PUT ON. I DONT KNOW WHAT THE PIPE IS, BUT THE SILENCER IS A RCM WITH SUPERTRAPP BAFFELERS, THANKS

Only a few things will make a motor run too hot. 1 the mixture being too lean, 2 Low compression, 3 ignition to far advanced, 4 low or bad oil 5 running motor while not moving for too long. I dont like air cooled engines, i decided i would never own 1 again. im glad to see the water cooled 4-strokes comming out.

I just got a 85 350x. It has two oil coolers on it. The guy that I bought it from took an oil cooler off of a junk bike and welded it to the frame on the opposite side of the gas tank. If he wouldn't have told me about it then I would have never know that he did it. It looks factory. Anyway this bike is highly modified and I can ride nearly all day and never notice it getting hot. Today the cam chain started making noise. It was also running a little hotter than usual. Can any tell me how to adjust it, because I don't have a manual yet. How much did you all pay for your manuals. Around here they nearly 50 bucks. I guess it is probably better to shell out 50 dollars than to ruin a engine.

85 350x to many mods to list

I paid almost $30 for a Honda service manual about 8 years ago. The service manual will tell you a whole lot more than the owner's manual will.
