A tach for a car or truck is for engines with 2 or more cyclinders, I have heard of people using them but i do not know how accurate they are because of that. You could check a tach that Bombardier sells for there DS 650's. Its made by autometer for use on single cyclinder engines.

If i remember correctly there is a ground, illumination, and another wire ( or 2 ) that goes the the ignition on the bike. I belive you hook them up at the coil but someone correct me if i am wrong.

i bought one somewhere on the kawasaki website (accessories maybe)---its called "tiny tach"----its self powered, and all you have to do is wire a ground and wrap a wire around your spark plug wire. i have mine wired up to my lawn mower now, works great--and it also has an hourmeter on it. it runs on an internal battery that lasts at least 2 years (thats how long ive had mine). i think it was in the $55 range
