32:1 is safe with premium fuel. i generally run around 40:1.

but that 20:1 OEM sticker is still nice and shinny on the frame.

I run between 32:1 and 40:1 with a good premium oil, and get a ratio-rite measuring cup to make sure you have your mix right...

that sticker is still on mine too!

So what would you think the problem would be if it was run 35:1 in the break in period after a new piston and rings and a bore job have been done, when it has lost all compression after the breakin.

It mainly depends on the oil you buy, read the lable......there is cheap oil that is 20:1 and there is good synthetic oil that is 50+:1 . I can personally say that the Amsoil synthetic has worked great for a friend of mine and I think his is 80:1

This has been discussed here many times. The guy I bought my R from said he was an Amsoil distributor (who isn't these days) and he was running it at 100:1 with their race oil. There was no way I was going to do that, so i started at 20:1 with Klotz super-techniplate and it was waaayyyy too rich. I then participated in this same discussion on a previous thread and started to experiment. 28:1 was still very smoky and fouling plugs, 32:1 was better but still alot of smoke and fouled plug once in awhile, 40:1 was about perfect. Just enough smoke on a cold start to tell it was getting oil, but it cleaned up right away and I haven't fouled out yet. I was given a free trial of the AMSOIL Interceptor Powervalve oil that promises 50:1 for anything and it also seems to work fine. Plus I can run it in my sleds in the winter, my weedwacker, lawnmower (yes, its a 2stroke), my Husky 55 rancher, my leaf blower, etc. etc. Interceptor is $5/gallon cheaper than Arctic Cat PV oil and Klotz SuperTechniplate.

Thanks for the info, when i get the bike i will definetly do some testing first. I am asking bacause there is another discussion about a guy with a mod'd R and he lost all compression after the breakin, he mixed 35:1 and the plug was a coffee and cream color. I just don't want to do the same thing

i run 50:1 in my trike (tri moto 175 with 125 CC engine) I use outboard motor oil by motomaster and it seems to work fine.

I used it my fan cooled snowmobiles and they got over 6000 miles before a rebuild. It really works good!! At least for me

I've been running a 32:1 mix in my YTM 125 and it seems to be a little too rich. Are you still running the Auto-Lube on your 175?? I'm mixing mine (I disconnected the Auto-Lube System) and I'm going to try 40:1 or 50:1 and see how it runs.
I've been having some problems with mine though trying to get it to idle right and it doesn't like it, I have to crank up the idle stop screw to far to get it to idle right, I dropped the needle down to the lowest setting to try leaning out the air/fuel ratio and it seemed to help some, but it's not quite right. I still need to do some tweeking.
I was thinking I might have a crankcase leak some where, but the thing starts right up with one pull and it never needs the choke to start when cold. It acts like it's running to rich on the fuel/air ratio not the oil/fuel ratio.

Right, keep in mind that there are 2 ratios, gas to oil and air to gas. Lean either way will blow it up.
