Default hard to ride

i was thinkin about getting a 85 or 86 ATC250R for the dunes and i never rode a 3 wheeler before but ive ridden quads and ive heard that the handling on a trike is way different so i was just wondering if its hard to ride one or not.

Its not that a trike is hard to ride, they are sometimes difficult to steer at high speeds. If you have never ridden a trike before do us all a favor and try a smaller bike than a 250R, of all the bikes they sometimes get a little squirrely. As long as your shift your weight while steering you will be fine.

you could handle r but after you got it i would take it easy for a week or two because it is a lot different than a fourwheeler just learn to respect the trike more than you do a fourwheeler

the R is the easiest to ride of the trike's if you ask me way better suspension you just have to learn how to ride it like a 3 wheeler not a quad.

just watch your turning and dont be getting drunk and trying to get the azz end loose, the R will teach you a lesson and throw you on your collar bone.

transistions i nthe dunes on a trike IMO are way easier and feel safer to me. i love dropping in a big bowl hauling azz.

a trike is something you get used to but never can fully predict like a quad, just when you get comfortable on one, it reminds you who's boss and throws u a curveball.

a stock R is pretty tame, i think you should be OK if you control your thumb. good luck.

EDIT: typos

everyone hit it pretty good.......keep your butt off the seat on turns, your body is the counter-weight!!!

This is like trike riding 101. I love my 85 250R. It turns alot better than my 110's do. hehe. I think if you are wanting to get a trike, get the one you will want to keep. If you get a 200x for starters and then move to the 250R it feels completly different to me. Get the one you want and practice until it hurts. Then wait a week or two to heal and then practice some more j/k. I have had my ATC 250R for about 9 months now and I haven't crashed it once. I get crazier on a trike than anybody does on a quad around here as far as wheelying and jumping. I have crashed my banshee on at least five occasions and one of those I had a helmet save my life even though it destroyed the helmet. You can start riding a trike by wearing one of them. It is easiest to me to use all the body english you can and plenty of right thumb. Also with a 250R you wont ever have to jerk on the bars to get a wheelie as long as you sit far enough back. Just in case you don't know what I mean by body english it is when you move your weight around to control the trike. If you are turning fast with the rear sliding out be sure to lean into the turn and get up on the front of the seat. This will get some weight off the rear and let those tires break loose and also put a little extra weight up front so the front tire will be able to do its job of telling the trike where to go better.

Its all common sense. One thing though thats diff from a quad is come down a hill turn or someway other than straight can be a little scetchy.

and with the r, if your use to giving it a lot of gas at the top of the hill, you'll end up with a lot of sand on your a s s when you fall off. watch the drags too if your swingarm is not extended. and also hill sliding is way different............... well live and learn but do it sober.. and remember, the bike doesent like you so dont under estamate it.
