What can I do to my ATC250R?
#1
Im making plans for my ATC250R...
I want my performance to be more towards drag racing than MX. What can I do besides a ESR TRX-5 Pipe, 38MM Carb, and an ESR 8-Petal Reed block? I really wanna know everything you can do to an engine for more performance.
My dad owns a machine shop...do you think he could mill the head? We have like 6 CNC's... Im just afraid to ask him. Im sure he wont do anything until he knows Im serious about modding it.
Could he port it to or should I look for a small engine place around here? A few hundred dollars is an aweful lot of money for somethin we have the tools to do...I think.
Also, If I even went for it and got the ESR 310 kit would that 38mm carb be enough? From what I hear the stock 250 bore cant really take anything over 38.

Also, whats the best silencer? I have searched but nothing was really conclusive. I want it to have a chromish finish, spark arrestor, and it has to sound good...quiet isnt really that important.
Do all TRX silencers fit the ATC?

yes but I wouldnt recommend any thing over 10 thousandth. As far as I know the only chrome silencer avalible is crap it's made DG, I would buy a FMF if it were me. JMO. I have a pic of my R in my profile with the FMF if you would like to see one. You could also just run a CR head gasket to get a little more compression.

you can polish the alluminum housing of the silencer but its a PAIN to get do past those brush marks. have fun with that. i might pay someone to polish my LRD silencer and the end caps are chrome or polished already.

yeah, thats true you could polish it but after you do that you will have water stains on it when ever it gets wet and since the silencer gets hot those stains burn in real good and its a pain to clean back up, not worth the trouble if you ask me but still a good point.

i agree, polished alluminum is a part time job to keep looking nice, ecspecially around those elements. hell, even in the dry elemenets of socal i have trouble keeping my rims looking like they are worth a d@mn.
chrome is your friend. easy to take care of and its tough as nails most of the time. but i dont think you can chrome alluminum.
check on planetsand.com for more motor builders in your area. believe me, they are there.

I sent my cylinder, exhaust flange, rad valve and spacer to Morgan Hill, CA. I didn't know anyone local at the time. Bought me an rk tek head and fmf exhaust. I'm very happy. If you want to make it fast its going to cost. I've spent around a grand on engine and exhaust. Your going to have to have the bottom end redone if you start modding the topend. There are some good builders out there.
