85 250R maintnence
#1
I was wondering if a 85' 250R would be alot to maintain b/c of its age. i found 2 deals. the first is the 250R and the second is a 350x. other ppl has told me different oppinions. i would rather go with the 350x b/c its 4 stroke but i want the 250R b/c of its acceleration-the problem is its 2 stroke.

honestly depends on the conidition of the 250r. if the owner had a remote idea of how to maintain it, kept it out of the elements like in a garage when its not being used, the R is a potent and reliable (more so than a lot of 4 strokes would like to admit) machine. its not uncommon to see R's still floating around stock bore or close to it and running strong. i say look at the obvious things. start the bike. listen to it run. kick the tires. the full deal. and more importantly than the bike itself, TALK TO THE OWNER IN DEPTH. get a feel for what kind of person he/she is.
i always say to check the drain plug to see if its been stripped which is most likely and not that big of a deal, its the way some people repair it that is so amazing. like welding on alluminum cases while the motor is together...big no no, but happeneds a lot.
