dent problem..

Its simple, you can take a long peice of metal and lightly push on them from the inside and that will knock a lot of the dent out. To finish up the rest just fill it with Bondo to slick it up the rest of the way. The tank on My 185s looks great and it had 36 dings and dents in it and it looks great now.

Ok, Ive discovered this, and Ill tell you why I posted that. I have found that if one person replies to a thread that nobody else has, even if it isnt correct, somebody will post the real answer in short time. So, the thing about buying a new one was all stupid just to get someone else to post.....it really does work, Ive done it a few times. I really had no idea how to fix a tank......but Lomax did.....haha

A reputable body shop can remove your dents for very little money with heat activated glue and pull rod as long as the dent isn't close to a seam in the tank. It doesn't harm the paint at all and I haven't had one run over $50.00 yet. I have had a few done over the last two years and I am floored each time they come back. Technology has come along way when it comes to body damage repairs with mild steel.

If your going restore your trike you,ll probably want to paint it ,so when it comes to the tank i prefer to use body filler .Heating up the tank will damage the protective coating on the inside and cause a rust problem down the track .If you try to lever any dents out be careful not to damage where the cap seals for obvious reasons.

Mine was carried to a body shop and I just got to "veiw" some of the repairs in progress. I am not sure of the shade of paint that was used, I'll see if i can find out, I know that it matches Maiers red very well.. As for a Protective coating inside the tank, Get a KREEM kit and coat the inside of the tank before you paint it (this stuff can make quick work of paint) then your tank will have a nice liner inside that will never rust out so you dont have to worry about you work being wasted on fixing the tank.
