I have an 86 350x and where the axel goes through the swingarm, i think its called the axel carrier i dunno a whole lot about it but it has a little play, not a lot but a little bit. I dunno if it is normal or not i dont want to ruin my bearings or anything else, thanks for the help

One of the reasons it could be loose is the bearings could be worn. As long as they turn freely and aren't causing you major concern I wouldn't worry about them.

I would worry, I've tossed chains before because I had bad bearings. If there is only a little play...like a small "click" when you move the bike side to side, then you can probably tighten the axel nut a little to eliminate the play. Once you reach this point, you should make plans to get new bearings. You can get them at a local bearing dealer or machine shop for $10 each. (Honda will charge you $25-30 for the same thing.) Get the number off the race of the bearing.

Depending on your riding, (rocky or rough terrain) and how often you ride they should last another 3 - 6 months without too much trouble. However, considering that the bearings will cost $20 plus seals, and if you throw a chain through your case ($600 min), I'd do the preventative maintaince.
