Default 200x cost question

Scenerio: Picked up a 84' that is well used and complete. I will be working on the minor items ie, new bearings for rear, add tail light, rebuild brakes, etc.

Issue: I have most of the tools and 70% of the knowledge, but NO TIME (one year old and wife duties) to work on my bike beyond the minor items.

The trike for sure needs a new shifter shaft (splines shot) and kicker shaft (too worn).

I would like the valves, rings and piston checked. Smokes a bit and has black oily residue in tail pipe, sounds as though it runs OK (no unusal sounds). Clutch, appears to work rode it and shifted a couple times.

Carb- put a rebuild kit in it, but does not start without a shot of ether, needs tuned.

Assuming I don't need much more than both shafts, maybe rings and gasket, how much can I expect to shell out to a shop to fix? I have an idea on both used and new prices for parts.

Goal: A reliable machine I can take away from home, stock performance only.

Thanks.

I'll make you an off so you don't get killed by a shop.........Your not too far from me, and I will do your work for you for a case of beer, serious, if you buy the parts. I have done a frame-off on my 200x, LT230S, and now my YZ250 and I have been a mechanic for 10+ years. I have all the books and some minor extra parts (jets, gaskets, ect). The local shop here is $65 an hour, and to split the case and do that work, you may be looking at 6+ hours labor.

Default 200x cost question

Deal, I have no problem with that. You are right, I have $450 in her and don't want to put a ton of money into her (I enjoy and have time to work on the minor things). I'll double the case of beer and will provide all the parts needed. Want to bring her back to life as a nice used stock machine and have reliable wheels the 2-3 times I get out a year.

I have a few friends that live off K. What is your number and I will give you a call over the next few days to work out a time to drop her off.

Thanks.

Ryan, I do rack up the projects pretty good, but they all kick butt when there done! Right now I'm actually pretty slow, only rebuilding a Honda concrete tamper, The Yz250, and a possible 7.3L ford PS, so I have plenty of time for another 1 .
gonicguns. I live behind the cop-shop of "m" (other side of K) I'll PM you my #. I just like to work on them and to bring another 1 back to life is a blast! My 200x is leaving this weekend and I have a couple extra parts I will give you. (not giving them to the tight-@$$ that is buying it, he's ONLY getting the bike)

A big Hooray to Mike for helping work on my project trike. He did a bunch of work on the engine and a few other repairs that required some extra tools and know-how. He got the engine in sound shape and I have a few small items to work on. The bike runs like a raped ape!!!! In all I located about 20+ new (most used) parts got them to him and he fixed her up.

All members at ATV connection: Mike is a great asset in his know-how and willingness to assist members on their problems. I am just lucky to have him within a 1/2 hours drive!!

Thanks.

Nate.
