Are Three Wheelers Safe!
#32
Just like people blame computers for not being able to do what they want on them....no matter what people will try to find blame in something other then blaming themselves. I have owned a few atc's including a 250r which is fast and pulls the tires up in all gears. NEVER have I flipped....why? Because I respect the machine. Don't abuse what you don't understand.
Enjoy your trikes!

Figure Skating.....such a "graceful" sport.

Why support this and changes views on three wheelers?

Safe as compared to what?
As compared to say...... a hang-glider.....yeah they are pretty safe.......
Compared to a modern day 4-wheeler they are not very safe........
3-wheelers had their time, it has ended..... it was an imperfect design by nature for something built to bounce and slide in the dirt......
those who really love them will keep them alive.......
those who used to love them, will now ride high performance 4-wheelers......and thank Suzuki for that obvious extra wheel idea......
those who never rode them will not miss anything........

As you said anything that someone does something stupid on can be considered dangerous. But, most people that do own 3 wheelers are hardcore 3 wheeler fans who either grew up riding them or have owned them since new. I bet if you took an actual poll the people that are getting hurt riding atvs are the noobies who are going out buying one for the first time not old school 3 wheeler riders. I started riding 3 wheelers when I was 4 years old. I started on a Honda 70 at 4. At 7 I moved up to a Honda 200S. Then at 9 I moved up to a Big Red 250ES. I now am 25 and I own a 1985 Yamaha Tri-Z. If anyone thought the Big Reds where dangerous they would think my Tri-Z is a death machine. 250 2 Stroke that can pull the front wheel in the first 4 gears. I'm still here though. HAHAHA

I've rode both quads and 3 wheelers. I love both but I can tell you that I found the quads have better (more positive) steering. It's simple. You have 2 wheels steering with a quad and 1 with a 3 wheeler. Quads are better for straddling ruts than a 3 wheeler. The only other thing that might be considered more dangerous is that a 3 wheeler has 3 axis where it is likely to tip where a quad has 2. A 3 wheeler is a triangle and a quad is a rectangle. If you find the center of the mass of each and draw a line from the center of the mass roughly 90 degrees through each outside edge you get the idea I'm trying to convey. Sorry for the physics/math lesson. I like them both. I wish they didn't outlaw the 3 wheelers from being made. It really comes down to learning each machines strengths and weaknesses and riding each machine appropriately for its design.

statistaclly 3 wheelers are safer then quads. more people are killed per capita then were/are ever killed on trikes.
In FACT out of the CPSC accident reports, all 2,516 compared to 1.5 million sold, over 90% were due to one or more of the following...Alcohol, No helmet, riding on roads. young kids of adult high performance machines with no helmets, and carrying one or more passengers
wereas many quad kills are the result of a extremly heavy machine Crushing the victim
additionally the triangle...by nature...is more stable then the square or rectangle. that is why you here of TRIPODS but not QUADPODS for such things as survey equipment, camera equipment, ect.

Nope. If you were to take the same center, go out diagonally down to 4 corners, it would be more stable than a tripod. Tripods are 1 less leg, lighter, and work better as far as adjusting for uneven terrain. With a quad you have 4 points resisting gravity with a tripod you only have 3. A square is much more stable than a rectangle if the center is the same distance to the narrow sides. All center of mass equations. A triangle has 3 directions that it is likely to tip the rectangle 2. A quad or 3 wheeler are both likely to tip to the side. The 3 wheeler has 2 tires to resist tipping (as the 3 wheeler is on the center of gravity). The 4 wheeler has 4.

is that why there are more ROLL OVER deaths on 4 wheelers vs. 3 wheeler
count how many were the result of a simple roll over...<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://kingvandal.googlepages.com/investigationsatvdata.txt
">http://kingvandal.googlepages....ionsatvdata.txt
</a>
then do the same with quads deaths.

and last i knew ATV's were designed to travel across uneven terrain. so your argument backs up the fact 3 is more stable
