So i picked up a couple of 3 110's this weekend...one I got running, the other is missing a few parts. Question I have....the one I got running is smoking bad and definitely needs a new or rebuilt carb. I can do the carb part...not that difficult. But I'm thinking it will definitely need new rings on the piston.

How difficult is it to do? Should I just get a whole new upper rebuild kit? Should I shop for a new motor from lefan and put it on there for not much more? If I go with a new motor, what is the biggest size that will fit? will a 185 motor fit this without modifications? Thanks!

No a 185 motor will not fit that frame
Unless you want to do allot of fab work
To answer your question on rebuild or go bigger
What do you want for a machine and what is your budget
I would look at all options then decide
To rebuild the topend of a 110 is cheap
And not much work

I plan on using it to get to my deer stand and have some fun with my buddies who have 4 wheelers who go riding a lot.

I'm not that heavy of a guy 175lbs, just looking for the best performance at a good price....I know that those don't really go together [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Currently, I know that the trike needs a new carb/rebuild. I have trouble starting it and I have to basically plug the air filter housing to get it to run.

Also, once it is running, it is a constant stream of smoke. Not super bad, but definitely oil...actually oil will start to drip from the tail pipe after a little while. It shifts through all of the gears and the foot brake works. I guess if I do it myself, I need to buy a clymer manual? Also, are there any special tools that I'll need other than a torque wrench? Any tricks to rebuilding the top half of the engine? Can I get away with just redoing the rings? or if I just do the rings, am I asking for issues down the road?

Is there a good top-end rebuild kit that you'd recommend or just get it off of ebay? Thanks for the help.

also the 90 hi perf cam will work in your 110
I have one in my 82 110
I would just disassemble measure inspect then order parts
you could probably borrow torque wrench

Sounds good. I appreciate the info. I just ordered the clymer manual, so hopefully, I'll get it by the weekend and I can start tearing into this thing.

 

Your toughest thing will be removing the cylinder
mud builds up in one of the stud holes and you have to work it ip and down on the stud until it comes off take your time
also the cyl and head will come off without pulling engine
but you will have to let all air out of front tire and remove front fender
you will have to push down on studs to get cyl off but it will come
You will be ammazed how easy it really is
it will be appatr in about 20 minutes
about 40 to 50 going back together
The manual is very through

Did you ever have any luck or figure out what the issue was? I recently got a 85 Honda 200s that does the exact same thing (smokes once warm, oil drips from tail pipe), otherwise runs great.

Thanks I have the service manual already. Just curious to see what the fix was in this case as I have the same exact symptoms. Oil seems to be leaking into the pulse generator/cover and exhaust port causing lots of smoke. Just got this so don't know the history, but I can tell the motor has been apart/resealed. Have ordered a compression tester to start with before I attempt tearing apart.
