1981 atc110 starting problems
#1
I am the original owner of this 1981 atc110. It sat for several years and this spring took it to a dealer for a new carburetor kit. They stated while it was running the engine died and they told me it was the stator. I ordered one for them to put on the unit. I took it home and it started fine. Then every other day or so It wouldn't start. I'd pull the plug and it was wet. I'd let it dry put it back in and turn the switch on and it would start. Once the motor killed about every 100 yards or so, it would restart but then die again. I'm wondering if the problem is in the switch or CDI unit. I don't know what the stator does in this unit besides run the lights, does it have a significance to keeping the motor running? Any ideas?

Yes. The stator has 2 parts. 1 Being power for the lights. 2 being the main part that creates spark. Sounds like your plug keeps getting wet and it kills because you're losing spark. Sometimes the cdi unti will cause this but being that your plug is getting wet that kinda makes me question that. You can test the stator with a regular ohm meter set on 2000 (2k) Test the red wire and then test the black wire. Then post your results and someone if not me will tell you what they mean. Best wishes
