Oh man were do I even start!
First off, nothing really wrong with starting the bike with a drill, just a little greasy, just promise that after you get it working properly, and it only takes a few turns to start you will get that fixed! lol. As for the compression spark and fuel, in reality it should at least fire if you have those 3. As for the kill switch, im assuming that the kill switch is located on the top of the little box with the throttle like my 81. You should take apart that box and clean the connections on the circuit breaker. The only thing preventing the lights from working on my 185s after pulling it out of the shed for 15 years was a moth ball! Or maybe get new wires(easy enough) nothing worse than not being able to kill the engine when you REALLY need to. As for shutting it off with the switch hot wired, putting it in the highest gear and slamming on the throttle while stopped should do the trick. As for changing the oil, sure nothings wrong with wiping down the fine metal shavings that are probably stuck to that side of the case. But I think that they are referring to the oil filter screen that is next the the oil pump which is on that side of the case (If memory serves my right), clean that out If you want, but It can be a little tricky, so maybe leave that or get it professionally done, or get a manual. Oh yeah and any original gasket on the bike is pretty much going to be toast after taking it apart. 10w40 is a good oil for these bikes. Yes there is only one drain plug and the crankcase oil lubricates the trans as well, so no separate trans fluid. I change my oil based on the conditions, Its a good Idea to change the oil if it hasn't been run in a while but I do it about every month and a half If I've been riding them alot. As for the carb, you can't really tell until you get it running. The one and a half turns refers the the mixture screw which is located on the bottom of the carb and I think 2 full turns from loosely seated is the default, DO NOT over tighten that screw!

Have you tried just putting a new plug in there
If you have good spark great
Do you have fuel great
I have seen same issues and change plug fires first pull
Just some thoughts

Oh yeah I tried the new plug FIRST, as well as draining/cleaning the tank and adding fresh gas, ALL the obvious stuff, but still havent gotten the opportunity to go try the other stuff. I am gonna test compression next to be SURE, then change the oil PER THE MANUAL way by removing the cover and wiping it down, then the new pull starter, then check the valve adjustment etc.
