Smile ATC 70 points

just a few quick questions. i finally got my 70 running right. It turns out the last time i installed the points they weren't tight enough, and the gap slowly closed and made it run horribly. i adjusted the gap and re tightened the points. i just need to know, did running it with loose points for about a year possibly hurt anything? and what are the odds of it happening again after i tightened them pretty good. last question, what is the average life of a set of points on these things?

thanks guys.

I don't think any long term damage would have been caused by the points being loose. On the question of how long they will last, I don't have a precise answer but my most recent 70 arrival had points in it that almost looked like they had been in there since new and it was still running well. From what i've read they wear the part that runs on the crankshaft and this can make it hard to set the timing using the gap method. when this happens it is time to replace the points.

it does have a lock washer on it thats why i didn't worry too much. although i did find out why the first owner soldered the wires to the condenser. i put in the new condenser a while ago and the wires tend to come loose. happened today, and this isn't the first time, and i had to push it home. if it happens again i'm going to solder them back together.
