Default Honda atc 185

Hey guys, I just picked up a free three wheeler out of a pile of scrap metal and I took it home cleaned it up a little bit and cleaned the carb and it fired up for about a minute. Then the recoil broke and after about three hours of wrestling with it I got it back together and on. But now the problem is when I pull it over the intake blows and the exhaust sucks. I am lost here, can anyone help?

I saw this kind of problem once before, it turned out that the motor was being turned over backwards. I know this sounds odd, but it does happen. Good luck.

So I take it I have the only atc 185 in the world that has ever done this?

seems so-

There's an old story of someone that drove up a hill, stalled, and went down backwards, resulting in a bike that the engine ran backwards. I doubt it really happened since the bike won't run using the carb as an exhaust, but it's funny to tell.

However, remember that an engine is just an air pump, it will pull air from one direction to the other. You can turn this "pump" over in the wrong direction with enough force and pump air backwards.

Somethings wrong. AT first I would say the problem would have to be with the pullstart. The cable could be wrapped backwords, however an issue would come in with the little through out prongs that come out internally when it spins. From there issues get worse.
The whole pull start assy probably needs to be rebuilt, not always an easy thing. get a manual and follow it and everything should be ok. It's a good start and my best guess.
Good lock and post how you do.

well I just checked the recoil and that checks out good - pulls over correctly and fine. I think the timing could be off but not sure, but now I found another problem. I cant get any spark and I checked the plug, wires, kill switch and am starting to think it is the cdi box or coil. Not sure but its a start.

Its really easy to check the timing, well thats if you have a parts manule. if you do look for valve timing and it will show you how and it prolly only take a half hour.
