82 atc250r axle bent/ need axle
#1
Hi guys, name is Sean. New to the forum thing and have very little know how when it comes to forums! I apologize if this is listed somewhere else as I could not find it. I am very mechanically inclined I do all my own work and have been for over 20 years. However my 1982 atc250r (my baby) has a bent axle and it is eating up the rear sprocket and chains, let alone I’m afraid to pop a chain and cause damage or be stranded. Needless to say I have look and found a couple used ones on eBay, don’t want to trust to get a “may be bent or damaged axle” and be disappointed as none of these listing say whether they are bent or not. I am in need of a axle cross reference I know there has to be a way to buy a new axle or another machine that uses a similar axle that may be easier to find. All help is very much appreciated and sorry for the newb vibes on here! Thanks again, Sean. 1982 atc250r.

Sean, for these older machines, it is going to be very difficult to get something new. Check Rocky Mountain ATV. I know they carry aftermarket parts for my 85 ATC250R. If ebay is your only choice, check the rating on the seller. Make sure their rating is 100% or close to it. Contact the seller to make sure the axle is straight. Just make sure to save your correspondence. If they sell you something that does not fit the description, ebay will back you up. It may take a little while, but you will get a full refund. At least this has been my experience. I have purchased several item on ebay and have only had to return 4 of them. On only 1 of them did I have to file a dispute with ebay, and it was in my favor.

@nachop thanks for the response! I have checked Rocky Mountain and every other site I could find through google, there may be sites I am unaware of tho. As far as the eBay thing the ones I’m finding are listed for a 81 (which had drum rear brake instead of disc) and 83 which started the second gen of the atc250r so I don’t think the 83 will work although I really don’t know, nor the 81 because of the brake difference set up? Do you are anyone else know if other year axles will fit?i can change a axle in 20-30 minutes it’s just the pain in the but of finding one and getting rid of the machine is out of the question. People also mentioned getting it straightened but that would make for a weak axle ya? Stress and weak points?

If you haven't already, try doing a search for an 81, 82, and 83 on the RM ATV Honda OEM parts section and see if any of the part numbers match up. You can also check out 3wheelerworld.com. Maybe someone there can help. Good luck.
