HELP Honda 200ES big red wont fire up!
#1
Buried it up to the handlebars in water....
Pushed it out, and it ran home fine.
Now, it wont start. turns over, and occasionally sparks and fires for maybe 2 seconds.
Honda dealer told me to let it dry out for a few days.
Before you ask, coil is good (have 2 of em) ignition is good, magnetic pickup and etc is dried out and working when swapped to other bike..
It just fires (occasionally) upon sitting for an hour or so, but wont keep running. (get spark for 1-2 seconds) oil is fine (no water)
Any thoughts>????
TIA

When you say the magnetic pickup, I assume you dried everything underneath the CDI cover on the head. Have you dried the stator windings?
When the stator gets wet, it does exactly as you describe. And it won't dry out in a few days either.
I don't mean to sound like I'm saying that you don't know what you are doing, but have you put in a new plug[NGK], unplug all connections and dry with hairdryer, and set the gap correctly when you removed the magnetic pickup? You must set the airgap on it and also make sure that you still have the "line" on the pickup matching the line on the cam with the piston at TDC. You probally knew all that, but I just wanted to say it in case you might have missed something, that's all. I wish you luck on the fix. I think you are pretty lucky that it didn't get the engine. Can't kill those Honda 185/200.
