Just to let you guys know that I have successfully transplanted a 350x front end on to my SX. I could not believe the ease of which it mounted. No modifications were necessary, except the front fender. I will eventually order a front 350x fender when I'm ready to get new plastic all the way around. I'll have pics real soon if anyone is interested.

As I suspected, the rear end is going to HAVE to be modified to compliment the front end. As soon as I figure this one out I'll let everyone know. Any ideas? How bout a rear shock from an X trike?

Again I thank those of you that responded to my question and gave me the idea to do this. The SX looks totally different with this set up. Much more aggressive. I love it.

Great !!

Glad to hear you got it to work. I know that the 200x front end I installed on my old sx worked good.

I would like to see some pictures and if you would like I can put them on my web site also. Just e-mail them to me.

You guys are nutty. These ATVs are awesome stock and becoming collectors items. Building these hybrid beast doesn't seem to make sense to me. Whats the point?

Next you should try to get the 350x mano shock to fit your sx that would be sweet , and also see if you could get the x plastic to fit too.

ExMaster - I am indeed researching the possibility of putting the X shock into the rear end. As soon as I confirm that it will indeed fit, it is going in. As far as the plastic goes, I am not going to try to make it look like a 350X. I still want it to look similar to the original SX, with slight differences.

The purpose of the modification was to improve on the original, not create a 350X. I would go out and buy one if I wanted (and I do eventually). Bottom line is I needed a new front end. When faced with the choice of going with the original 5.3 inches of travel and drum brake, or 7-8.5 inches and a disk brake, which would you choose?

FMR70 - You are right, these machines are becoming collectors items. However, I am not into collecting/showing. I ride. In order for my SX to hang with my four wheelers that have large amounts of absorbtion, I needed some improvement. I agree that the SX was a great machine in its original form (not awesome). In its day it was very good for its purpose. Cross between utility and sport. I am just leaning more towards the sport side now. Besides, the modifications that I am doing will not alter the SX so much that it could not revert back to its original state (don't know why I would go back).

Point is guys, everyone has a different riding style. Everyone has a reason why they ride or buy certain types of ATVs. Every modified machine is done so for a purpose unique to the invdividual that is doing the modification. Sit back and appreciate that fact that we can enjoy our sport even with the increasing pressures from stupid people that want to shut us down.

Keep riding and be safe.

Well stated man, have any idea on when you will have the pics available, I'm real anxious to see them. Also, are you running the stock 23.5x8x11? front tire and rim, I bet it looks a LOT better than the shorter fatter front tire. I wonder if this kinda mod would work on a Big Red 250, I always thought trikes looked better with skinnier front tires, like the X's and R's.

Rob - I'm not sure when I will get the pics. Could be another week or two.

As far as the front tire, I am using the stock 350x tire/wheel. I agree with you on the narrow tire look. Trikes with narrow front tires look way different than the ol fat tire. This is probably the reason my SX looks much more aggressive/sporty. Don't know about doing this to a Big Red. I would think that a Big Red would be to much on the utility side. I do know that despite the front end looking narrow, the width of the forks is the same as the OEM front end that I removed. When doing the conversion I realized that spacers where used on the front axle to fill the gap. Whereas, the original (fat tire) setup did not have spacers. This is why my stock SX light and fender where able to be utilized.

Okay, can hardly wait. The reason why I thought of trying it on the big red, is because, it comes stock with 25x12x9 front tire, if I could do the conversion on a big red, I could put a 25x8x11. I think it would look awesome. If I were more sure of this kinda mod, I would look more into an '87 Big Red, which I'm kinda thinking about anyway. Also, were you gonna put the 350X's fender on there for looks, or because it would fit? Or will the SX fender work? I wasn't sure, where you stated that the only thing that will need modification is the fender. Thanks
