Modifying 350X with 400EX parts???
#1
OKay I have a brother that has upgraded his 400EX to a 440 along with hot cams etc. I have another brother that has a CHERRY 85' 350X. My question is, can you make the stock 400ex piston work in a 350X motor? and the cam also??
Is it possible?
Thanks

Neither will work.
The wristpin on the 350X is larger and the piston has a different deck height from the 350X.
The cam wont work simply because both engines are so different. The 400EX is a RFVC type.
Powroll offers lots of parts for the 350X to make it scream.
If it's any consolation to you....the 350X can be built to make more power than a 400EX can be built for. It all depends on the size of your pocket book.

The head and jug from the FT 500 Ascot can be mated to the 350x bottom end. I am not sure how big or how much power it had but I saw one years ago @ Silver Lake, Mi and it was unbeatable.

Trx440,
Thanks for the reply, FT ascott 500??? was that a honda motor? and was it a single cylinder? I thought the old Ascotts were twins.
DO you have any more info on this One-off machine??? sounds cool!

Knowsalot, will the RFVC head or head/clyinder from an XR350 work on the 350x bottom end? What about the 250x/XR250? What have you heard about the ascott combo? I too thought it was a twin.

There was a FT 500 single the first year, then a V-twin the following year. They were both called Ascot. -RT

Hey mad200xer, I don't find any information on a 1987 XR 500. I don't think they made it then. All I find is a 400 and 600.
Anyone know which it is for sure? I would like to try this top end as a project.

XR/XL/FT 500 series topends DO NOT fit onto 350X bottom ends. I have pictures to prove it. Even if they did, the topen is about a inch and a half or so taller, which would make it nearly impossible to fit into a 350X frame without hacking on it.
