Default Race Classifications...

In motocross (2-wheel) bikes are classified and raced by displacement i.e. 125cc 2-stroke & 250 4-stroke race together, 250cc 2-stroke & 450 4-stroke race together, etc. Is it the same w/ quads?

If it is the same for quads, where do the Banshees, Raptors and other larger displacement bikes fit in? Open class?

I ask this for (2) reasons:

#1 - I've heard of a displacement restrictions on 450 4-strokes to 439cc (or is it 440cc?) - so how can a Raptor race w/ a YFZ on a track?
#2 - If there are displacement qualifications, then a "little" YFZ that keeps up w/ a beefed up Raptor or modded Banshee ought to score well right?

My modded YFZ did very well against some modded Banshees and a modded Raptor. All those bikes were stock displacement, but all were running higher comp pistions, ported/polished, piped, coolheads & boost bottles (shees), bigger carbs (Raptor) etc., etc.

I'm running the GYT-R 13:1 pistion, YZ exhaust cam, Curtis Sparks pipe and a 168 main jet.

I was even w/ one of the shees and was right behind the others on the face of Sand Mountain and was dead even w/ the Raptor several times on the same run.

All the above riders were very impressed with the YFZ. I'm a "bigger" guy @ 205 lbs w/ gear - I wear my MX boots, pants and helmet everywhere.

Next time, I'm gonna use/bring my 13-tooth countershaft sprocket and see how that works. For my first "hillshooting" outing I did real well. I don't know how much technique/experience would play into my results, but we'll see.

For an example of how MX bikes are classified, go to www.itpquadcross.com and it will show a list of different classes. This is ITP's classifications, all racing organizers are different. Hope this helps...

It depends on the track I am sure that it varies from track to track. I am running my 450 in the 30+ class witch is an open class.
If I wanted I could run the 4 stroke stock class (c class) or 4 stroke A or B class or the (G/P unlimited is an open class). All the 4 stroke classes do not have a cc limit nor dose the 2 stroke classes.
The racing comunity here is just happy to see 60+ riders on race day. So I don't think there going to make a bunch of rules to discurage any racers.
I am sure that it is diffrent there.

The 30+ has mostly 250r's and a couple of yfz450's a Cannon and a 440ex. The reason I am running the 30+ class is that it is one of the largest classes. Like 4 stroke B and A there's only 2 maybe 3 people in that class. Where as the 30+ has 10+ riders (makes it more interesting)

I am sure that it is diffrent there.
