I have a 250x Honda. Would that be a good pick for racing. IF i extend the a-arms and back axle.

well it depends. Do you want to unload a lot of money in it? or just get a used race ready 400ex for the price it would cost to make a 250x competetive. I'm waiting for some money so i can sell my 250 and get a 400. I love my 250x but im ready for an upgrade.
