As far as motocross, or any type of riding, don't do something that you or your quad are may not capable of doing right away that would end up getting you hurt. If you have not raced before, talk to sombody who does and find out exactly what gear you and your quad needs. Most tracks require a kill switch, and nerf bars, on the quad. As far as rider, of course a helmet is required, many require actual riding boots, not some steel toed work boot for example.

After that its the rider, personally I don't really know of many tips that will help too much, its mostly gaining experience. Here are a few generals things to focus on though. Yes being able to jump is important, but being fast in the corners is what separates the top riders from the others. Don't overdo it, take it easy at first and try to gain experience and work your way up. No I can't tell you how to jump, that takes experience and just plain instinct. For example, I hear people asking what gear to do jumps in, that only works if you are racing the same track with similar bike set-ups. Anything else is different for different machines (not the model of quad, but how the suspension is set up and the motor is built or runs like) , so you have to get used to yours and learn how it reacts. Also, every jump is different, thus they launch the quad different, which intern determines how much suspension pre-load is needed, speed needed, if the throttle needs to be bliped, or just held constant, etc. Say there is a doulble that you have never done before, first jump and land at the face of the one you want to clear, then judge what kind of speed, Engine rpm, etc, is needed. It's usually better to overshoot the jump the first time than to come up short.

Also, are you motocrossing the 250R set up as it is in the picture? If so, you should get the frame gusseted (reinforced) if you haven't already because it will develop many cracks if you don't. Also I'm under the impression you just got it recenty, so if that's true, you should strip it down and look for any stress cracks anyway. Also if you are planning on racing alot, do suspension first, even before engine work, because it will alow everything to last longer, also you can only go as fast as the suspension will allow.

If there any other particulars you have a question on let me know, I'll see if I can help. I can let you know where to gusset it if you want, I just don't feel like getting into the right now, I can put it in the tech section so others can see it that way also, if you want to know.

Hope this is what you are looking for if there's anything else, let me know.

Good Luck Racing! Also; Have fun, don't let anything get in the way of that.

Go slow at first, and learn both the bike and yourself. You have to expect a couple of bad finishes when you first start out, but you'll never get faster if you never make mistakes. Cornering is very important, almost double what you'll get from jumping. Bike control, and throttle discipline are also very important. Too much throttle or too little throttle can be equally destructive, to you and your bike. Go watch the class you're gonna race in, then get out there and tearit up. Just remember that you payed to race, and it's all for fun. Racing really sucks when it's not fun anymore. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.
