Im 15 and I want to get into atv racing. I weigh 170 and am 5' 4". I have experience with clutches ridden all of my friends. Although I have never owned a sport only sport utilitys. I have done a great deal riding sports with clutches. My friend has a KFX400 and I like the feel of it but i dont really need to reverse due to I have a utiltiy to use on trails. I would am buying used around 1998-2003 if I can find a good priced quad. The quad I am buying needs to have plenty of aftermarket acc. My price range is around 2500 or a little less.

 

when it comes to quads year really doesen't matter, how well it was mantained is what counts. 400ex sounds like a good choice for you.
