Which 450 is better for MX?

if you are going to do like casual c-class racing then probably the yfz would be the way to go. if you are hard core and going into a-class/pro class (or plan on it) its all about brand loyalty, everything gets changed out (like kgb said) from shocks, a-arms, axle, engine mods, at that point, there isnt enough difference between them to notice (including the z400)

Each quad is good in its own sense. Honda took what yamaha had trouble with and made their better in that respect. Yes the yamaha is faster, but the R is not a 4x4 either. I work part-time at a Yamaha dealer and I can tell you personally that I have customers come in ordering new swingarms, axles, subframes, a-arms, etc. We are talking about people that race D-class or first year racer at the local track. Every quad will have their problems. I can think of a few on the z-400 as well. I think the problem is that the manufacturers say the quad is race ready but the first words out of a persons mouth that races is what shocks and a-arms are you putting on it. IS THAT REALLY RACE READY???????
NO, that is why I think they need to quit sayting it is race ready. If you really wanted to get down to it someone could probably sue because the manufacturers said it was ace ready and it really wasn't. Think long and hard and I advise that you ride both before you buy. Just because the YFZ is faster doesn't mean that the ergos of the R won't fit you better. What would you rather have, a faster quad or a quad that you are comfortable on so you can ride faster???????????

Me and my brother raced a 450r basically stock for months and beat out many yfzs with a-arms, shocks, axle, and engine work. I know that some of that depends on skill but you cant do it alone. And about the Honda being slower that is not the case in fact maybe opposite because we have both just out pulled yfzs in straight ways.
Just my input.
