i have never rode either but i have seen them race alot they are very close about 50/50 they each one a few races and it looks like they both wheelie good but they guy on the honda looked more comfortable, but i do like the sound of the yfz when im not in my rail i ride a 400ex that is not mine so either of those quads are far better than it

Ten questions, ten answers. I personally bought the Honda. I am glad I did, I don't like the YFZ. Even though it is 2 miles an hour faster.

What good is a wheelie? They don't win a darn thing. I can make anything wheelie. Balance people, balance.
I want to buy this because it wheelies good! Lets race! you can't turn when your front end is in the air! good thinkin!

well this thread is in the ATV racing section and that would make me choose the YFZ. Havent ridden one but ive been told the 450r has a light nose which, although great for wheelies, isnt great for acceleration and starting in a race. Consitering until the new 4 strokes the 250r, which is a two stroke with, not more power, but snappier power, then the 4 strokes was the main racer i'd say the powerband of the YFZ is more suited for racing. Both are great machines and either can be made much better if you have the funds.

Why the hell do people bitch about the seat on the YFZ when you are RACING - do you really spend that much time sitting on your ***? Who the hell rides like that in a race for so long? I don’t know about the seat under long sitting durations but I do know I spend the majority of the time during off-road racing around in a semi-stand position or leaning anyway... The YFZ was built to race and anyone who owns one that spends enough time on the seat racing to complain about it should not be on it in the first place. In a long xc / gncc type race you want a comfortable seat. A rough ride dramatically increases and quickens rider fatigue and that can really hurt your performance.
But the truth of the matter is that the vast majortiy of yfz owners will never even take a practice lap on an mx track, let alone compete in a sanctioned race season. More will go xc but you are still talking about a very small percentage. Most yfz's will be trail and dune machines and both of those conditions call for a comfortable seat.
I havent been on a 2005, did they actually improve the seat much or is it still stiff and unforgiving?

I’m not sure if they did change it or not - I will have to hop on the next one and see; I honestly don’t see what’s SO bad about the seat to tell you the truth. I guess comfortable boils down to riding style, personal preference, and popular majority opinion.

I don't own either I own a Ds 650 but I have ridden both and have to say that they both have their pro's and con's. I really liked the R for all around due to the light front end and the comfy ride. It has tons of power and will turn on a dime. As for the yfz it seemed to me to be alot more powerful and pulls like a raped ape. But it felt very narrow and I always felt like I was on the edge. It does have electric start though and thats a big plus in my book, but overall I think that I would go with the R.
