Utility Class Racing
#1
Just bought new 650 brute force, looking for easy mods to help get it race ready! Thinking about running 22" ITP holeshots, would they be functional or would they goss gearing problems! I will be racing the utility class OMRA GP Series, ground clearance is not an issue on these tracks!

I often run 22" tires... a little light clutch work, & a CDI, will make up for the loss of tire O.D.... you'll have a much lower center of gravity, & much better racing tire tread options... for muddy course races, I use a set of 22" X 12.5" x 9" TSL's on the rear, & a set of 23" X 8" X 12" 489 XT's on the fronts, for dry courses, I use a set of 22" X 11" X 9" Schredders on the rear, & a set of 22" X 7" X 10" Bandit, mounted on custom 10" wheels, for the fronts...

SHHH... don't tell anyone ... in the 1st place, I always race in 2 wd, unless the course is very muddy, in which case, there is enough tire slippage to not hurt the quad... also, if there is a slightly taller gear ratio in the front, in sloppy stuff, you'll find that the quad "pulls" steers better than with an exact match on gear ratio ( I learned this mud racing my Jeep, several years ago )...
& I certainly don't recommend this, but when I drag race, I always use my stock 25" front tires & wheels, because they are the lightest... one time at the asphalt drag strip, last summer, the quad was accidentally put in 4 X 4, & with my clutch mods, the indicator doesn't work... I made my 1st run down the 1/4 mile of sticky asphalt, & down the return road, with it in 4 X 4 & the 25" front tires on, & a set of 22" Duro's on the rear... it made a big pop, when it came out of gear, from torque buildup, but didn't damage anything on the quad... if that didn't wreck anything, I'm sure you won't wreck anything with less than 1" difference in tire O.D. , & a slippery surface....
