Of course it comes down to rider ability, that's the classic cop-out. But when two riders are on different machines the one on the more powerful machine has the advantage regardless of how well he rides.
And the 450's are faster than the pred from my experience.

from personal experience, I disagree with your statement. When it comes down to it, it's rider ability.
Choose the bike that best fits you.

450's are faster from my experiences to. I would get the Z400, or wait for the new z450

The same arguement would apply to the Raptor 660, which both predators consistently beat. Can't say that's a cop-out, can you?
The 450's are a great bike. Just get the bike that best fits you.

I'd like to race with ya more, riding with someone better than you makes ya better.
Not sure if I can make Hanegan on the 25th... I should go. We're planning on going to Castle Rock on the 2nd. Do you lower your machine for Hannegan?

You said I was pulling away from you at Florence didn't ya??? No not on the track, just going WOT on flat sand. Didn't a preddy beat ya at RMC in the open class? (I can't remeber the guys name). You'd beat the pants off me at hanegan, as you did at RMC. You're a good rider! You'd beat me on your wife's preddy too. This affirms what I said earlier about rider ability not the machine.

You know there is a lot of info that has been given to you. But, I think you should really consider what type of racing you are going to do, how old you are, how big you are. These are all important things that need to be answered before you buy. The two are pretty much the same thing, as for the Pred. You need to consdier what type of racing and how much strength you have to muscle it over the jumps to set up if you are considering MX. I started out with a Pred and now have a YFZ 450. In local competition I could run in the same class with the others, but at the nationals and ITP, you have to race in the open class - that puts you up against others with mods. I raced MX with the
Pred it was good on jumps , but it really needed more frame work. Plan on putting a gusset kit and powder coating it to strenghten the frame. I ran with stock suspension at first then added aftermarket parts. What I found out that the Pred had over the others was that it was good on long stretches and up hills. But most beat me out of the corners. I also had to body move it on jumps to set up. It's rear end slides better in the corners than the others. But again it is a heavier bike and that means more muscle to position it. The Pred is awsome in the dunes No matter what type of racing you are getting into figure some extra $$ on a-arms, shocks, gusssets, pipes and you know all the rest of stuff that it takes to get you set up for competition.
Good luck -
